CD PROGRAM (Worldwide release fall 2015)
In this first edition of essential music we will focus on the music of Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975): A polifacetic, prolific and often controversial composer. Perhaps due to the hardships he endured during his life, he decided to keep most of his thoughts for himself: Shostakovich said very little about his music, actually, he didn’t say much at all. A composer of very few words and an extremely diverese and retoric musical language, he left us with endless unanswered questions.

As you can read in The Project page, classical music is often strongly influenced by folklore. Folklore is part of a person’s identity and folklore music is perhaps one of the strongest elements of local identity. When present, folk music is one of the main elements that provide classical music with lyricism and spontaneity. In this edition of essential music we explore the influence Eastern European folk had in the music of Shostakovich.
